3rd Grade Teachers

Mrs. Garvey

My Name is Maggie Garvey. This is my 6th year teaching at De Diego and my fourth year in a row teaching in a gifted third grade classroom. I graduated from National Louis University in 2003 and completed my masters in curriculum and instruction. Every day I am reminded of why I became a teacher as I see my students grow and develop their skills. Being able to see them learn something new every day is the best reward a teacher could possibly ask for. I strongly believe that my students are the future and I pride myself on making sure they are as prepared as they can possibly be for the next steps they take in life.

The biggest joys in my life are my two boys, Charlie and Eddie. My husband Matt and I love living in the city with our children. I love to cook, travel, read and spend time with my family.

Mrs. Gus

I met and married my high school sweetheart. After he passed the bar exam, we had our beautiful son Matthew. This begins my 14th year as an educator; though it’s been in my heart forever, as both of my parents are teachers! When I’m not reading mystery novels and children’s books to my son, I’m attempting crossword puzzles. You want to know something silly about me? I collect motion pens from around the world. I love crazy pens, and friends and family just keep finding them for me!

Hi, my name is Pam Colwell and I am a third grade teacher at José de Diego Community Academy. Although this is my first full year at José de Diego, I have been with Chicago Public Schools for 22 years.
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, with a minor in psychology, from National-Louis University. I received my Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Loyola University; and my General Administrative Certification from Lewis University.
I am a very proud mother of 5 year old twins, Jack and Kaitlin, who are just beginning their educational journey.
I am looking forward to an amazing school year.
