My new married name is Mrs. Johnson, but most of my students know me as Ms. Barry. This will be my fourth year at Jose de Diego and my eighth year teaching. I come from a family of teachers. My grandmother was a teacher, my sister is a teacher, and my mother is a teacher. I graduated with a degree in studio art from DePaul University. My postgraduate work lead me to Northeastern Illinois University where I earned my second degree in art education. I am responsible for teaching art to the third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth grade. My students are taught the skills they need to express themselves in a positive way through drawing, painting, and sculpting. Throughout the year, the latest art projects will be on display across from the main office.

My name is Ruth Evermann. Even though I have been teaching for a long time, I am currently working as an Art Therapist. In this position, I continue to teach but I use art media. My goal is to show children how to effectively use thier social emotional skills for the purpose of their own personal development, and be actively involved in their own life learning.
I am a storyteller here at school. It is my favorite place to tell stories even though I do it in other places. I really like what children say to me about how I did. They enjoy describing how they acted as they listened to me.”
I also have the priviledge and responsibility of training Art Therapist interns from The School of The Art Institute, and from Adler School of Professional Psychology. In January of 2009, I began teaching Social Workers and other professionals at Northwestern University.

HI! My name is Robert Krueger and this is my 38th year with CPS. This is my second tour of duty at De Diego. I spent the 15 years between De Diego tours as band and orchestra director and head of the department of music at Lincoln Park High School. The groups at LP won many city, state and national honors. I am proud of the fact that many of my former students are playing professionally all over the country and in Puerto Rico. I am especially proud that a dozen former students are now band directors of their own schools in the Chicagoland area. I hope that many of my De Diego students will also make music a major part of their lives.

I would venture to say that I have welcomed more students back to De Diego than almost any other faculty member. My husband says that I’m like the man who came to dinner and stayed and stayed and stayed! Where else, though, would I have the satisfaction of seeing that special look on a student’s face when he suddenly understands something he hasn’t understood before?
At De Diego I have worked in many different programs. There were classrooms, pull-out programs and even what I call the “drag in” periods for the reluctant student. Whatever was needed, the student was always engaged in learning in ways that would be successful for him.
My most recent position has been that of counselor. It is a challenging and interesting change. Since I retired, I eagerly accepted when Mrs. Vera offered me the position on a part time basis.
Well, I’m happy to be back for another school year. With the foresight of our principal, our dedicated faculty and the commitment of our students, I’d say we are headed for a pennant winning year.

My name is Noelia Romero and I am the technology coordinator at De Diego. This will be my seventh year at this school. I have been teaching for 10 years, two of those years were in Milwaukee where I am from. I have a Master degree in Technology in Education and have been a technology coordinator for seven years now. I have a wonderful husband named Juan and two adorable cats named Tobi and Sofi. My son Cristian was born last year. He is a joy and I love having him in my life.
In my classroom I see students in Kindergarten, first and second grade, third, fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth grades. In the computer lab we work on different skills but my main focus is to utilize technology to facilitate learning for all students. I like to take what the students are doing in their classroom and enhance it with technology. Technology is a wonderful tool to motivate children to learn and excel in their studies. I foresee much success in the use of technology this year and I look forward to all the challenges and opportunities that the year may bring.
Sincerely,
Noelia Romero
